I went down to the city today to meet up with local drifter, Jim Bissey. Jim’s been racing since he was 5 years old and once he was let down by two of his built SR20’s blowing up, Jim decided it was time to take a slight break and upgrade to another engine platform.
The idea for Jim to move up to a 1Jz VVTI was inspired by Nick DAlessio and Steve Angerman who both had been saying “bro get a 1J”. After going for a ride in both of their cars, Jim instantly fell in love with the boosted straight sixes.
The day after Jim crashed his old shell and the motor blew, he began working on his new 240SX hatch shell and started from scratch on building a new chassis. Not many people can say that they’ve been the only one to touch their car during a build, but Jim can proudly say this. The cage, engine, wiring, paint, etc was all done by Jim at his family’s shop, J&C Auto in Philadelphia.
The build was not easy, but with the help of friends, Nick DAlessio and Steve Angerman, and Jim’s father, the car was able to get done. Jim would like Nick and Steve for answering the questions he had throughout the build and his father for pushing him to get back into racing and not give up when his previous chassis was causing so many issues.
Jim will continue on now with his fresh build to complete the last three rounds of Street Wise Drift for 2013 and continue to participate in local events and competitions.
